Hastings, Victoria, Australia is located on the Mornington Peninsula, on the western side of Western Port Bay.
Once a sleepy fishing village, Hastings is fast becoming the regional centre for the eastern side of Mornington Peninsula.
This is the home of Bluescope Steel and ESSO, major employers to the area. Western Port Bay's deepwater access allows large commercial vessels to enter the Port unrestricted.
Down by the historic jetty built in 1865 you will find a six-million-dollar indoor swimming complex, fully equipped gymnasium and bistro. Most times there are 15-20 pelicans to be admired. There are acres of green open space, a skate park and modern children's playground. There's also the Yacht Club, Angling Club, Fish Shed, World-Class Marina and Chandlery, with many fishing excursion vessels.
Walkers and cyclists will appreciate the Hastings coastal nature walk that takes you south to Jack's Beach and beyond.
The modern shopping precinct boasts more than 100 specialty shops including chemists, newsagent, office supplies, post office, hardware, butchers, fresh produce, gift shops, computers, photographic, clothing boutiques, shoes, hair and beauty, video library, council library, hotels, car accessories, print shops, electrical and many others. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants, fast-food outlets, also McDonalds, Kentucky Chicken, Red Rooster.
Coles Supermarket, Ritchies and Not Quite Right were recently joined by Safeway. A huge K-Mart is now open for business.
Pelican Theatre Company regularly perform plays in the Hastings Hall, which has recently been renovated.
Several kilometers to the south can be found HMAS Cerberus, Australia's largest military training establishment and naval base. The base has it's own hospital, cinema and golf course.
